CDA York County

Field Work
Fieldwork consists of working directly with young children. All students must accumulate 480 hours in a licensed child care center or family child care program.

If you are currently working with children between the ages of birth and five years, you may complete these hours while you work, provided you meet the following requirements:

  •  A center-based preschool setting must be state-approved, working with at least eight children, all of whom are aged 3 through 5 years. In addition, (1) at least 10 children must be enrolled in the program; and (2) at least two caregivers must be working with the children on a regular basis.

  • A center-based infant/toddler setting is state-approved with a group of at least three children, all of whom are under 3.  In addition, (1) at least 10 children must be enrolled in the program; and (2) at least two caregivers must be working with the children on a regular basis.

  • A family child care setting is a family child care home with at least two children 5 years old or younger who are not related to the student by blood or marriage. The setting must meet state licensing regulations.
If you are not currently working with young children, we can place you in a licensed center as a Student Intern, working at least 25 hours per week.
